The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has anticipated significant rainfall in Tamil Nadu as a result of a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal.

In fact, on November 12, IMD issued a yellow alert for 12 districts, which was extended to 17 on Wednesday and will encompass 25 by Friday.

Furthermore, Chennai experienced severe rainfall overnight, with Adyar, Meenambakkam, and Nandanam collecting 6 cm of rain. However, the city's schools and colleges will continue to function. Meanwhile, severe rain forced the closure of schools in Perambalur, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, and Mayiladuthurai districts.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said the state government is prepared to deal with the impact of heavy rainfall and assured of all arrangements in Chennai city.

“Based on the study of the impact of rains in October, we have increased the number of motor pumps and volunteers. We have 1194 motor pumps and 152 super sucker machines. Placement of motors and machines has increased by 21% compared to October. The Tamil Nadu government is fully prepared for the rains,” said Udhayanidhi Stalin.
